Walnut Creek updates!

Normally, we reserve event updates for our monthly round-up’s on Saturdays. However, the Walnut Creek City Manager newsletter for April was so chock full of great events coming up in the next week or so, we couldn’t resist sharing a few of them with you. There is a lot of stuff happening in Walnut Creek, so here’s our best all-things-WC blog. Check it out!

RESTAURANTS

Bier Haus, Galpao Gaucho, Burma Unique, & Burgerrim

These four places are in the works to replace Lark Creek Cafe, Momo’s, Chevel, and Salon 13, respectively. We’ll have a more thorough blog about these soon. Bier Haus is German fare like Wienerschnitzel and German Beer, Galpao Gaucho is a Brazilian steakhouse, Burma might be like Burma Superstar, and Burgerrim is already in the renovated Rossmoor Plaza with another one downtown. It will be interesting to see how they all get received in Walnut Creek!

Mangosteen

You can never have enough pho! Mangosteen just opened next door to Havana and I’m excited to try it. It doesn’t hurt to have a delicious pho restaurant right in the middle of downtown.

Just Be Yoga

Just Be is moving to where Diane’s Swimwear used to be on Locust St. next door to Peets as they lost their lease on Blvd Circle! They will have two yoga rooms, thus two classes at the same time or overlapping.

Happy Easter from my clients!

This is why I do real estate. How awesome are these pictures and the nice messages from a client who clearly loves their new house? It’s moments like this that remind me why I love this job so much!

“Happy Easter, Kristin! We had our first formal family dinner at our house today and even broke in the fine china and family silverware.”

Road Trips: Strawberry Jam 5K in Capay

Grab your kids for a short road trip! Today there is a fun event going on in Capay (1.5 hours from Walnut Creek, just North of Vacaville): a 5K run and farm tour at Capay Organic.

I get produce from the delivered to my door weekly if I choose and you pick what you put into that box – of course it is only fruits and veggies currently in season and they often have a recipe included.  Last week I got sunchokes as I forgot to modify my order – these are also called Jerusulum  articokes and I made a wonderful potato sunchoke latke which will be recreated and served for Easter Brunch.

From the Capay Organic website.

Tickets are available here, and sign in begins at 10 a.m., with the run starting a half hour later. The farm will be open to tours from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and includes the options of tractor rides, a Q&A, arts and crafts, face-painting, a petting zoo and an Easter egg hunt!

If that’s not the most perfect way to spend Saturday of Easter weekend, I don’t know what is! For you foodies, there will be a little farmer’s market section with local honey, olive oil and pesto tastings, fresh Mexican food and plenty of sweet dessert and coffee options.

For a little different twist on your regular Bay Area road trip, consider Capay Organic for your next weekend away. They have events almost every month, and the pictures make it look like an absolutely gorgeous setting. I wish I could have been there today myself!

Upcoming Spring Holiday Events in Walnut Creek

St_Patricks_Day_Parade_MontrealThis is a wonderful time of year. Everything starts blooming, the sun comes out – springs forward for an extra hour and we start daydreaming about where to vacation over the summer. To signal the start of Spring, we have two holidays filled with family fun: St. Patrick’s Day (yesterday, but most celebrations carry through the weekend) and Easter!

Walnut Creek becomes especially beautiful in the Spring, and it’s a perfect time to get out and about and take part in some of the local events coming up around these two holidays. Here are a few ideas for this weekend for both kids and kids at heart:

Egg-Stravaganza at Heather Farm (Sat., Mar. 26 – 9 a.m.)  (my kids used to love this)

The Walnut Creek Interact Youth Council and Walnut Creek Recreation bring you a fun-filled egg hunt for the kids at Heather Farm next weekend. The kids can take photos with the Easter Bunny, paint their faces and do crafts, along with the egg hunts. It’s a perfect way to get your family out in the sunshine to celebrate Easter!

St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl in San Francisco (Sat., Mar. 26 – 12 p.m. – 7 p.m.)

Okay, this one is not technically in Walnut Creek and is definitely adult-only, but if you’ve ever been in the city on St. Paddy’s Day and not taken part, you’re missing out on a great time! Leave the kids with a sitter for the day, dress in your most leprechaun-like outfit and go slug a few green beers at SF’s favorite Irish bars.bunny

Easter Event at Alamo Plaza (Sat., Mar. 26 – 12 p.m.)

If you want to take the kids out for a beatuiful day to celebrate Easter, but don’t want to battle the Walnut Creek crowds at Heather Farm, check out Alamo Plaza as an alternative. Train rides, an Easter Bunny, live street entertainment and more will make for an awesome family day in the sun!

Check back next week for additional events as we move into April. Happy Easter!
