The 2021 Pantone Color of the Year is…

…Ultimate Gray (17-5104) + Illuminating (13-0647). The Illuminating color (a shade of yellow), makes me think of the new Poet Laureate, Amanda Gorman, and her penchant for yellow. She rocked one of the 2021 Pantone Colors of the Year at her inaugural poetry reading (whether intentional or not!).

According to the Pantone website, this combination is “a marriage of color conveying a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting.” Well, that’s a welcome message after a difficult 2020 year! Here’s to hoping we’re all feeling a little more illuminated and ultimate in 2021.

In the Pantone news release about the colors, Illuminating is described as a “bright and cheerful yellow sparkling with vivacity, a warming yellow shade imbued with solar power,” and the Ultimate Gray as “emblematic of solid and dependable elements which are everlasting and provide a firm foundation.”

As far as painting your house goes, would you choose Illuminating or Ultimate Gray? Personally, I could see painting a room gray, but the other might be a bit too yellow for me, but as an accent color it is perfect. I actually have a small yellow bathroom where I put on make up and wanted the bright sunny color in the mornings when getting ready. What are your thoughts? Share in the comments below!
