Pier 1 Imports Finds a New Home
After 15 years at its previous location at 1902 Mt. Diablo Blvd, Pier 1 Imports has made its new home at 1902 Mt. Diablo Blvd.
Although the move seems small, it brings huge improvements for the popular home furnishings retailer. A much larger store allows for new and exciting merchandise, complete with new fixtures for an improved shopping experience. Perhaps the greatest improvement this new location provides is expanded and more accessible parking for customer convenience.
Pier 1 Imports’ inventory offers an amazing variety of merchandise including furniture, home décor and culinary items from around the world.
Hopefully its beautiful new location hosts a bright future for this Walnut Creek business!

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K Walk:

The American Cancer Society is sponsoring at 5K walk around Heather Farms Park. This is a free event to raise awareness for cancer research and to provide support for both cancer survivors and those currently battling cancer. Another Sunset Park Listing
I recently sold 1924 Pomar in this complex. Up until this time the market was lagging and the few sales were closing in the low to mid $300,000. As Spring sprung, inventory was extremely tight and Pomar had 9 offers and closed for $420,000 the winning bid removed their appraisal contingency. With prices on the upswing, Sunset Park has seen a handful of new listings and prices continue to rise (although as more hit the market I am sensing some stabilization).

Fountain Head – Art In Walnut Creek
The Artist: Seyed Alavi – His works are degined to encourage viewers to question the poetic role space plays in our daily lives. He created Fountain Head, which is located in front of Mechanics Bank on the corner of Main & Duncan Street.
Alavi wanted to create work that would offer a playful and evocative focal point, as well as a gateway for Main Street, which once used to be known as Four Corners at Main & Mt. Diablo. Fountain Head is a commentary on the role of the fountain itself. Historically, fountains have been at the center of community life, providing critical agricultural and social sustenance. Alvai became intrigued by the overlapping notion that both the human head as well as the fountain have been considered sources of wisdom and life in western and eastern cosmologies. Alvai decided to place the water spout at the skull’s apex bringing together the concepts of birth, rebirth, wisdom, and community.
I also like how the city has incorporated flowers and a peaceful place to sit. What are your thoughts on this piece of art?

Ideas for your Bathroom Vanities!
Not the most sexy of remodeling, but an important item to consider. I have the ugliest vanity it my second bathroom, but need space to set my make-up, curling iron & blow dryer as I get ready in the morning…time to gather ideas to make a change in 2013! The faux marble has burn marks from my curling iron and a candle which caught the decorative holder on fire!

Parkmead Community Traffic Meeting

The traffic meeting is Wednesday April 10 from 7-9 pm at Parkmead Elementary School.
Contra Costa County, specifically our new Supervisor, Candace Andersen, has engaged us to hold a community meeting regarding traffic safety issues in the Parkmead area. Representatives from the County and City traffic engineering departments will be present as well as representatives from the California Highway Patrol (responsible for County traffic issues) and the Walnut Creek Police.
Some of the issues raised by neighbors include:
-Cars speeding and not stopping at stop signs
-Concern for Parkmead children walking to and from the school on the Newell pathway as well as along Lilac
-Bicyclists not stopping at stop signs
-Residents being blocked into their driveways due to traffic congestion
-Cut through traffic from downtown (Kaiser, Rossmoor)
More details and a reminder will be posted here as the meeting gets closer. The Parkmead Community Association will also send email to those on its list and keep our website www.parkmead.org and Facebook current. This is a unique opportunity to learn about County and City programs and to ask questions, make suggestions and express opinions.
